SDG 6 clean water and sanitation 4all. Can we prevent the wasting of USD 22 trillion?

SDG 6 clean water and sanitation 4all. Can we prevent the wasting of USD 22 trillion?

A recent report published by the summarizes the challenges on Sustainable Development Goal 6 on good water and sanitation for all. More than two billion people do not have access to good drinking water, more than 4 billion people are deprived of adequate sanitation and the projected cost for water infrastructure until 2050 exceeds USD 22 trillion. Total infrastructural costs have been estimated at about USD 40 trillion.

We have looked at the targets and indicators of SDG 6. We conclude that the UN has made a big step, but that the implementation of the SDG 6 indicators can be improved significantly by making them "SMART". We have demonstrated that for the EU-28. We took a broader view on water and included 24 SMART indicators divided over 7 categories, i.e. Water stress, Water quality, Access to basic services, Infrastructure, Waste water treatment, Solid waste treatment and Climate adaptation.
