ITACA-Treatment of wastewater with high organic matter and salts content by membrane processes

This project has as main objective the investigation of alternative membrane technologies for wastewater treatment of high organic load and conductivity, since they make difficult biological processes and require in-depth pretreatment before filtration. It will be studied membrane processes like reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF). In order to prevent fouling and to prolong the life of the membranes, ultrafiltration (UF) will be applied as a pretreatment in the production of regenerated water. The optimization of this prior filtering process is a primary goal, because of that it will be used new technologies such as ultrasound.
The project consortium is called ITACA: Investigation of Treatment Technologies, Reuse and Control for the future sustainability of water purification.
