The case of Lake Naivasha

The case of Lake Naivasha

The Naivasha basin involves a broad group of stakeholders including large horticulture companies and their employees, the outgrowers and smallholders, local government and basin inhabitants, and those dependent on the broader Kenyan economy and trade. Over the last few years, a number of initiatives have been launched to improve governance, in particular via the involvement of Water Resource Users Association stakeholders. A Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) scheme has been put in place to ensure riverbed conservation in the upper catchment.
