Water Resources Assessment
Water resources assessment (WRA) is a tool to evaluate water resources in relation to a reference frame, or evaluate the dynamics of the water resource in relation to human impacts or demand. WRA is applied to a unit such as a catchment, sub-catchment or groundwater reservoir. WRA links to the Water resources knowledge base and is a basic input to the planning process, as well as for decision-making e.g. risk assessment or certification.
Innovation in WRA is constant, based on its adaptation to available data and expectations. Improved approaches are required to deal with variability, uncertainty, different scales (e.g. farm vs. basin level) and ecosystem services based on (fresh)water ecosystems.
