On 23-24 November 2017, the EU and I.R. Iran held three workshops in Tehran to develop a roadmap for the future cooperation environment and adaptation to climate change. In the discussions on water and marine issues, some 40 participants from different Iranian institutions and European experts discussed about the Iranian management challenges and the relevant EU experiences.
The draft main topics that have been listed address water and marine governance and planning (e.g. WFD, MSFD and MSP experience), freshwater allocation in particular to urban and irrigation uses including desalinization, as well as ecological flows, the Value of Water, integrated urban water management, diffuse and point source pollution both land- and sea-based, the conservation of wetlands, rivers, coastal and marine areas, as well as of the relevant species, and fishery management. Further consultations are envisaged to prioritise the topic list and involve interested stakeholders.
The cooperation aism to address policy recommendations, demonstration projects and business and research exchange.
