EWW - Energy and Water Works - energizing sustainable deltas (AG115)
The main goal of the EWW-Action Group is to enhance European interest in innovative crossovers between energy and water in the development of policy, markets and knowledge and to further the relevant industrial policies.
In order to achieve this goal the Action Group EWW will organize several international conferences and workshops where knowledge and experience of the EWW projects will be shared and EWW members can address common innovation bottlenecks and barriers. These include issues relating to the governance of innovation.
For the coming months the Action Group pursues to achieve the following objectives:
- Raise more awareness to ocean energy especially in the context of water works and multifunctional use,
- Align the discussions about the energy-water nexus within en between the different EU policies (DG’s) for the purpose of understanding each other better and speaking the same language, to find coordination and joint action in their measures, approaches and financing programs (DG Mare, DG Energy, DG Environment, DG Climate, DG Research and Innovation)
- Activate coordination and cooperation with other European networks and platforms like Water technology, the Ocean Energy Forum, Ocean Energy Europe, TP etc. in order to develop a common agenda.
- Commit itself to a holistic approach, because coastal energy (near shore) is linked to integrated developments in Deltas and on future spatial policy of the (North) Sea(s).
- Make recommendations for the H2020 Working program 2016-2017 by focusing on Challenge 5, which is about climate action (services), environment (sustainability), and nature-based solutions (resource efficiency).
- Work on the improvement of public and investor confidence by focusing simultaneously on
- (a) show-cases and demonstration sites (best practices for small or large-scale; locations which do have the optimal technological circumstances) ;
- (b) new governance ‘models’, like PPPs (the potential of public procurement for driving innovation); and
- (c) exploring the capabilities of the instrument of the European Risk Sharing Finance Facility, imbedded in an integrated approach to support financial viability of the larger implementing business cases of 20-50 MW each.
