AugMent - Water Monitoring for Decision Support (AG124)

Aim is to address several innovation barriers, in particular innovation barriers that include the management and integration of  multiple data information exchange standards, the integration of existing platforms, the extraction of information content from remote sensing products, the limitations in power and connectivity for low cost sensors, the involvement of crowdsourcing monitoring and its impact in modelling, among others.

AuGMeNT foresee the following main activities: 1) Develop and test cheaper and more accurate static and mobile sensor devices that monitor water quality and quantity within the water cycle to generate denser monitoring networks in space and time; 2) Improve current satellite data products on the terrestrial water cycle 3) Integrate multiple platforms to store water quality and quantity information that have been developed in the recent years; 4) Develop methods to include dynamic and heterogeneous data from multi-sources into models, in order to support current  water management paradigm shift from water supply to water demand; 5) Preparation of workshops and stakeholder consultations.

The workshops serve to build and maintain a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art with respect to monitoring for decision making. The stakeholder consultations serve to map awareness and market readiness for different technologies, as well as to assess and characterize demand for future technologies. In addition, AuGMeNT intends to develop concepts, proofs of concept, prototypes and workflows and steps to be taken for mobile sensors to measure different water-cycle quantities and fluxes, to measure water quality in the water cycle, to improve satellite data products on the terrestrial water cycle at different scales and to multiple existing water data platforms and GEOSS, to use heterogeneous data in models and decision support systems.

Finally, by working on the identified innovation barriers with the listed activities and generating the mentioned products, AuGMeNT wants to develop business models of services and products based on free data, to propose action plans to guarantee the continuity and self-sustainability of data collection initiatives and to open new market opportunities at a global scale.
