Launch of the 2017 UN World Water Development Report

On 22 March 2017, World Water Day, the United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR) was be launched. It is published each year with a focus on different strategic water issues. This year the focus is on wastewater as an untapped resource.

With almost 80% untreated wastewater worldwide (in high, middle and low-income countries it is resp. 30%, 70% and 90%) there are many win-win opportunities for reduced pollution and resource recovery (energy, nutrients, metals).

Focus on the regulatory, financial and technological barriers remains paramount. The Circular Economy drive is crucial here, with the EIP Water playing its role in addressing these barriers in Europe.
